Wow, those flies must be pretty big to have a moth like that. Good series.

Nice and sharp, but the lighting looks really harsh Jim. What's your flash setup? FEC? Diffused?

Thanks guys,, troy,, I had a 430EX set off camera mounted set to ETTL at -1 diffused with a Lumiquest softbox here,, the lighting is somewhat bright, maybe it was the angle and I pointed the flash a little more upward since that was the angle,, any suggestions ?
Thanks for looking ;)

Not sure. One of the images EXIF data shows it was 1/100s, f/5.6, ISO400. Not sure of what the ambient light conditions were like, but that's a lot of light you are letting in even without flash. Was it a sunny day? Looks like blue sky in the bg.

You'd expect settings for a sunny day to be around ISO100-200, f/8-f/11, 1/100-1/200.

You shooting in M mode, or AV or TV or something? Oh, just saw EXIF data. AV. Try M mode with settings like I suggested. As a starting point use Manual mode f/11, ISO200, and 1/200s and see how it goes. Play with the shutter speed and/or ISO to control the background if it's too dark or light. Flash will light the critters for you.

That's all I can think of for now. Hope that helps. And hope it's not jibberish. It's 5.30am here and I'm still half asleep.

Good set, especially #3 where the lighting is the best. First 3 shots are of a pregnant female by the looks of it, #4 not sure, could be male or female.
