Hi,

I have several hundred slides of my clients work (he is the photographer and I am the guy who is supposed to get all his stuff online). I need to get them scanned and online (hi res needed for downloads). Any recommendations for getting them scanned? Would it be cheaper to buy a scanner? I've seen some places online that advertise slide scanning but I'm not too sure if it is safe or a good idea to send them the originals.

It depends on the quality that you are looking for.

If you want high quality a scanner, such as the Nikon Super Coolscan 5000ED, costs around $1000. Less expensive scanners can produce a decent result, depending on how the images are going to be displayed/used.

A better option may be to use a scanning service. This link leads to a good discussion about Scancafe http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=503431 which may be what you're looking for.
