Those are great! especially the last one(looks almost studio lighting)

I think you have just about perfected the art of light painting cars:lol:

May i ask what kind of light are you using and are you difusing it with anything??

Wow, great pix. What a great idea... Long exposure and running with a light around the cars?

haha, thanks Mark, far from perfecting it!

I used a LED workshop lamp and used it in a softbox. Single-diffused only, or else I lose too much power.

It's in the wash at the moment :p

The light is this one (http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=ST3126&CATID=21&keywords=&SPECIAL=&form=CAT&ProdCodeOnly=&Keyword1=&Keyword2=&pageNumber=&priceMin=&priceMax=&SUBCATID=649), and the softbox is just a regular 60x60 one.

I need longer arms...

i tried lightpainting once - i found it very hard to remember where i'd been so as to not over-expose the area (by lighting it twice)...

so what you're saying is that you have this LED worklamp in a softbox and you're running around your car like a ninja to get this effect?

that's funny shiet!

I'm really interested in doing this--any tips as far as a basic, cheap set-up ideas? I linked your LED lights...$50, a cheap ebay softbox is $20 shipped, what else do I need besides long arms?

Dark clothing, seriously.

Don't wear white, you'll show up in the photos  also a lot of patience.

A good tripod and a remote shutter release, too, so that you can shoot in bulb mode.

Check the EXIF - each pic is different.

Some are longer than others, on the 5D I was shooting at ISO640 (just cos I can :D but more because the car owners' patience was running low  ) and it was about 50 seconds or thereabouts.

in the past I'd use ISO100 and have the shutter open for a much longer period, group shots would take me 3-5mins per photo.

cool..thanks man. What kind of soft box do you have--just a cheapie?

How did you mount the LED into the softbox?

Are you handholding the softbox or do you have it on a boom?

Yup, eBay special softbox :p I clamped it with the speedring and covered the back of the softbox with a black cloth.

I handheld it, that's why I said I need longer arms :P but I could do with an extension rod of sorts...
