It's predominantly Canon but not exclusively. I would say anyway.

With that said, I've seen a lot of discussions on other brands.

I think that the gear forums are officially for canon gear, but there are quite a few members who use other equipment.

Maybe offtopic but; Do someone know something similar forums like this, witch are for every brand? And as popular as this one?

nothing is as popular as this one --- not for Canon anyway. dpreview has forums for each manufacturer --- they're not as friendly as POTN though. :p

Only the gear forums is strictly Canon.

You can share photos shot with any brand even photos shot with cell phones ;)

There are other forums just not as friendly.

I wonder sometimes if the mods have considered trying to get canon to sponsor this site. I am sure POTN causes more money to be spent on Canon gear than any advertisement they have.

If I remember a previous conversation, yes that has been explored and Canon declined.

In a way, I'm happier not having Canon breathing down our backs. If we accepted any sort of sponsorship from them, we would be under a certain amount of pressure to always present things involving them in the most positive light. Whereas we are all Canon advocates, we won't be in a position to look the other way when they mess up.

I'm much happier having our integrity intact, and not being beholden to Canon for anything.

You be holden something?

I think we're here more for the photo community at large and the betterment of photography. I do wish I had found these forums earlier and avoided some really stupid beginner mistakes. It's nice having all you people sitting on my desk when i need a tip or help. Good thing it's a sturdy 1950's oak desk!

Not to mention that if we were getting their money there would be a perception that anything said here, especially by Moderators, represented official Canon policy. I'm sure neither they nor we want t hat!

You mean like the constant complaining about no center pinch lens cap and not including hoods with non L series lenses?

Come on Canon, even Sigma is including center pinch lens caps now. Get with the program!

I know we are a Canon oriented forum, but I like the fact that other brand owners think well enough of the site to join in.
