I am interested to know what other photographers think about this photo that I took this weekend. It is a Candid of a family memeber.
edit: Do you think the shaming of the chin hurts the overall image?

Great clarity! Since you asked for my thoughts...first let me preface my comments by saying that I am by no means a professional or anything close to one...but...since the girls face is the focal point of the photo, I'd see what cropping out the dead space on the right of the photo does. Maybe even cropping out the little bit of space on the left too. Just my $.02 though!

Thank you for sharing!

Attractive woman; beautiful skin and hair coloration.

The chin crop doesn't bother me at all. Facial expressions are captured in the eys and mouth, not the chin.

There is a lot of room on the right, but she's looking in that direction. It could be croped more tightly on the right - a matter of style and taste.

The shot is well exposed without excessively harsh flash highlights or shadows. The focus is off - should be on the woman's right eye, not left.

The expression is awkward - something you and perhaps the woman would better understand. That's what makes it a candid!

I know this isn't the critique you were asking for, but she is Gorgeous!!

Thank You very much for the Critique guys. I appreciate all of the comments.
Also you don't have to be a pro to comment. I like to hear everyone's ideas. I have a very open mind.

her expression.
At the time her Mom was talking to her, and I believe her brother was standing in her way.

Next time, I will try and put the center AF point on her right eye, which is what I should have done, and I will try croping it a bit tighter and view the effect of the image.
I didn't do much in CS, just converted it from Raw, usm sharpen, contrast, curves, and noise reduction. Otherwise, I am really impressed with this lens and camera.

I just got my hands on a 550ex and a 420ex, so I am practicing more with my lighting.

not a fan of the framing...if your gonna get close get a little closer...if not, a little bit further back...either way you have a better photo in my opinion

Get closer? How close would you recommend?

I was using a zoom, so if I zoom out I loose some detail(like in her hair, eyelashes, skin tone and texture). If I get closer in the composition wouldn't it look awkward? Am I wrong in thinking this?

no, but you can turn the camera, go with full frame facial photo...

i saw it done a lot in my photography classes by other students, it can work out rather nice

but my personal taste wants you to back up a little and get that chin in the shot

If he was any closer, wouldn't the flash be too strong against the skin?

There is a lot of merit in this photo - but I think a less worried expression would improve it!

A nice photo, but I think shooting it vertical would have allowed you to not crop the chin and remove some dead space to the right. A little lower perspective might be interesting as well, letting you look straight into her eyes. I'm not criticising, just thinking out loud.

Thank you for the comments billish, I will keep this in mind for my future work.

What I noticed first, and it bothered me, was the cropping of the chin. I very much wanted to see the rest of her chin. However, I found her facial expression pleasant and intriguing. She seems thoughtful, pensive, philosophical.

Thanks Bodryn,
It was a quick expression and I had to move quick. So that meant I didn't fiddle with the camera or anything. I have to work on getting better with quick compusures. I guess that will come to me with practice.
