Since I got my first D-SLR 2 months ago and my first macro lens 2 weeks ago, I'm still at the stage where I'm happy just to get something in focus. I don't have a flash of any kind yet, and no tripod suitable for macro use yet either. So I generally take the pictures in harsh sunlight and crank down the aperture for as much focus-margin-of-error as possible!
