Great shots Alistair. The "2 for 1" is obvious in the first one. Had to look harder in the second and third shots ;)

Thought those might be tiny white springtails in the other shots too. In #2 under where its wing connects, and in #3 on the hump on its back. Maybe not.

Could I inquire as to exactly what setup/rig you're using and how you shot these? In other words, tell me everything! :D

The lighting is perfect in these. I see a lot of these around and my camera just can't get close enough. Thanks for posting. I wanted to see their mugs up close! Cool shots!

Thank you very much everyone for the wonderful comments and feedback, very much appreciated.

I use Canons 30D with the MPe-65 and mt24ex with homemade diffusers. I shot all of these handheld and they are all focus stacked. I was able to hold the leaf it was on an move it for a better angle. I then rested the end of the lens on the had that was holding the leaf which gives a very steady platform and then slid the lens forward to move the focus while taking the shots for the stacks. Settings were the same as usual appeatures around f9 to f7.1, ISO100. 1/200.

Agreed, although Brian has some pretty damn amazing Cranefly shots as well! I'm still betting on Alistair and Brian being secret twins ;)
