Although I read the forums a lot, I also like to read away from the computer. I have tried a few different mags out, but I want to know, what do you read?
Also, please mention the following: %advertisements, %photos/%product reviews/%technique tips/etc... I am tired of product reviews, I simply don't buy the newest p&s camera every month and don't want to know about them either. So... what's good to read?

"Hey, that's not a photography book!"
Anything that opens your mind is good for photography. Try this for example, a real mind opener and lots of fun: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0156027593/103-7407175-6900661?v=glance

A cracking book eh Pekka, you might want to follow up with the old book 'Holy Blood And The Holy Grail' which goes into the subject in vastly more detail.
As for photography i tend to look at books of classic photos for inspiration and read 'Amateur Photgrapher' for help in achieving it!

Digital Photo Pro and Photoshop User. I can't wait for my Outdoor Photographer and Popular Photography subscriptions to expire because I literally take them from the mailbox and throw them in the trash.
As to books, "Into the Void" was the last good book I've read. Great story.
For the DaVinci readers, you might be interested in Stephenson's "Cryptonomicon." Great book.

How about the UK's Practical Photography? I saw it at Borders and I liked the issue that I saw. Is that a reliably good read?

Digital Photo Pro.
Incidentally, I used to read Practical Photograhy (UK) imported here but the last year I had a sub it got awful. Like the US rag Pop Photo (which is full of ads and repetitive, useless articles). Practical used to have some great glamour but I think they got beat over the head by those who are PC. They also used to have more depth articles. The last year I read, the editorial content had most of it's weight removed. Very sad to see a magazine like that die. I used to subscribe but lately I am unable even to find it at local bookstores (Barnes and Borders).
I also read PDN every so often. Photo is ok. American Photo is a little too light but is ok.
Books? Not many. Not enough time.

I like Matthew Reilly... Contest and Ice Station are great.
Lately I've given up the Photo mags, and been hanging around Photography-on-the.net/forum its better value for money :D and when somone is full of it, you usually find out pretty quick.

Mags: Digital Photography, Amateur Photographer (cos thats what I am), Photography Monthly, Practical Photography Film & Digital, Digital Photo.
Recently joined The Readers Union 'Focal Point' Photography Book Club in the UK and get heavily discounted books of my choice every 2 months or so.
Just received from them 'Adobe Photoshop CS for Photographers by Martin Evening
and 'Perfect Exposure - from theory to practice' by Roger Hicks & Frances Shultz.
The PS book is excellent and I highly recommend it if your into that sort of thing.

I've almost completed his first book "The Digital Fortress" that many of you may have read them years ago.
Yes, the books help us to take photos of symbols, codes -- all depends on the imagination...

I dropped my Pop Photo & Imaging mag 'cuz I was going through it in less than 2 minutes without finding much useful into in it but I still kept the Outdoor Photographer subscription. I subscribe to Digital Photo Pro but am totally disappointed in it and will not be renewing it. Still getting National Geographic mag, though, along with a few oher non-photo related magazines although I did cut back on a few of those, too.

I'll buy almost anything relating to cameras. This is primarily so I have something to do while waiting for my wife at the mall. Reading is easiest because I can do it sitting down.
I always buy Popular Photography, Shutterbug, Digital Photo Pro, and the Photoshop magazines. Occasionally I'll pick up one of the British mags, not for the content, but because they're so beautifully turned out.
PacACe is right.....there really isn't much useful information in any of the magazine (except for Photoshop). I usually spend the most time perusing the B&H ads.

I read quite a lot of books, though it kind of goes in seasons. I recently read two rather thick books in two weeks, last summer I barely finished a book in 2 months!
I like to read historical books, political books, religious books, books with facts I suppose.
Well, to be honest these kinds of books interest me. What I really like to read, in the sence of actually reading (several hundred pages a day) are books written by John Grisham (or someone with a similar "style"). Also, I read in 3 languages (Finnish, Swedish, English) and I try to keep it equal between the three :)

I don't like fiction very much.
Raymond Kurzeil captivates me most... he's as much of a "novelist" as M.C. Escher is a "painter" :-P

One nice thing about UK's Practical Photography is that they don't take the Pop-Photog approach to reviews where everything is fine (especially if they advertise in the mag). Practical Photography gives a "recommended" and a "best buy" in their reviews.
As for non-photog reading, I just started "Between a rock and a hard place," the book by the guy who had to cut off his own hand to escape death in a canyon in Utah. It comes complete with several amazing photos, as well...

It's interesting:
Because of the lead time necessary for publication and distribution, I find that information in periodicals is usually pretty old by the time it hits magazine racks.
Give me the internet for timely new.

I'm currently in the middle of Bulgakov's Master and Margarita. Have a soft spot for Classics :)
