I just bought a Manfrotto tripod (055XPROB (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/505863-REG/Bogen_Manfrotto__055XPROB_Tripod_Legs_Black_.html) ) with a Manfrotto ball head (488RC2 (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/505863-REG/Bogen_Manfrotto__055XPROB_Tripod_Legs_Black_.html) ). I now want to put it in a soft-sided case to carry it around when it is not strapped to my backpack. Manfrotto (or other name brand) cases seem over priced to me.

I'm looking for something like one of those carrying cases (with shoulder strap and drawstring) that come with soccer/camping chairs. Does anyone know where I could find a bag like that?

Spend the 10 bucks and get a chair too!

You could try eBay or alternatively, how about a tripod carrying strap?
Something like this http://cgi.ebay.com/OPTECH-Neoprene-Pro-TRIPOD-STRAP-Swivel-Hook-Connector_W0QQitemZ180252656517QQcmdZViewItem?hash =item180252656517&_trkparms=72%3A392%7C39%3A1%7C65%3A12&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

Try Sammys in Los Angeles, I bought one there
a couple of years ago.

The manfrotto one is overpriced, but I can assure you its the nicest bag/case out there! I own the Bogen/Manfrotto MBAG90P Padded Tripod Bag for my 055XPROB and 488RC4 or 410 combo. Fits perfect and is very protective.

Yes, I got this one and it is wonderful for $34. That is pricey, but exactly what I needed.

Spend the 10 bucks and get a chair too!

Be cheap, hang around a soccer field (or volleyball tournament) and watch for people to throw away broken chairs, bag and all. I salvaged two nice bags so far, and my 3021 / 3047 fits nicely in one (Coleman bags are extra heavy duty). The Slik 112 fits in the other.

Many moon ago I found a Vivitar tripod bag, and I used it for my Bogen 3221, and now use it with my Gitzo 2-series tripod. Similar tripod bags available from Porter's and could probably be found at other stores, online or brick and mortar.

Some of those Porter's bags seem to be good. I already bought a very cheap folding chair just to get the bag, but I may spring for one of those Porter's.

Thanks!

I have a bogen/manfrotto bag from B&H. It fits both the tripod and my monopod.

That's exactly why I mentioned that (in the first message of this thread)--that I didn't want an overpriced bag from Bogen/Manfrotto.

Maybe overpriced, but much better quality than most!

Sorry, I didn't think $56.00 was overpriced to protect a $300 investment.

This Manfrotto bag (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/162686-REG/Bogen_Manfrotto_AW3280BLK_3280BLK_Tripod_Bag_Black _.html) is what I use for my 3021BPro/488RC2 combination. It's very well made and not overly expensive.

I don't think $34 for a good tripod bag is expensive. I actually think these accessories make hauling stuff easier and make you look professional. Gee, spending $1600 for a lens and $34 for a bag?

No idea on those but for $40 you can get a Domke that will last forever.

I'm a fan of the Manfrotto 90P.
You get what you pay for.

I would agree those don't seem to be very good value.

If I were to spend ~$60 for a tripod bag for carrying and protection, I'd choose a ThinkTank Bazooka (which I did for my Gitzo, particularly handy for flying with a tripod as carry-on luggage) because IMO the design and protection are better.

ThinkTank Bazooka's all the way. Period.

Don't get me wrong, but I just want something to cover up the tripod when I'm carrying it on an airplane. I am not checking it in as baggage, but carrying it onboard with me. I don't need padded protection, etc. I just don't want to be walking around an airport with a tripod sticking out for the world to see.

If I were to check it in as baggage, I would get a padded bag. Then again, I wouldn't trust my expensive tripod with minimum wage baggage handlers. :(

I ended up buying a cheap folding chair that had a decent drawstring bag with a shoulder strap. This works for me.

Thinktank bazooka's actually do just that. It's slightly padded but even then, I wouldn't be sending this through check-in.

Nor would I, I'd use a rigid case with a soft interior for checking if I needed to. Still, with the jostling in flight the thinktank bazooka provides some nice protection for overhead storage of tripods.

That's what I use it for...great for using it that way, I don't want banging the ballhead or having it catch on things or have it be seen by people.
