I wonder how long it'll be before someone pops into this thread with a smart ass remark about how we should all just get out and shoot with the cameras we own, or how they don't like rumours etc etc. Seems every rumour thread these days has at least one person like that in it.

No, but do you think people actually listen/care? This is the rumour forum, it's here for a reason - if people want to get excited over rumours, this is the place for it. Trolls posting the above mentioned views aren't needed.

So it looks like the 3D will be up against Nikon's rumored D700 in the $3K price bracket. And it looks like, once again, Nikon will win on features and Canon will win on sensor/IQ.

But a $2K FF "40D" type body will probably maintain Canon's edge.

Why do you think that Canon will will on sensor/IQ? They are behind right now and there is nothing that suggest that they will overtake Nikon. The rumors speak of a 2+1/2 stop of sensitivity improvement over the current model (of the 5D) which means ISO 12800.
