i thought i read somewhere that you can put some extension tubes and a macro filter on a canon 50 1.8 and get pretty good macro shots with it. Has anyone tried it and does it work?
I am just wondering if it is a way to go till i can afford a canon 100 macro or a sigma 105 macro.

thanks

If you get just a full set of Kenko ext tubes and use them with it you can get some excellent macros at up to 1.3:1 magnification. Main disadvantage is the fairly close focus.

thanks might give it a try just because once i get more involved i can use the tubes with the more expensive lens, cant I?

I am sure if you check the macro forum there are examples and reviews there somewhere.

here's a couple shots i did...only with the 20mm tube attached for the flower shot...not sure which tubes i had for the eye...the DOF becomes extremely shallow...so most of my best results have been off of a tripod...if you look at this thread i posted the same subject with different tubes attached http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=492153

also i got mine off of ebay for 109 shipped from hong kong, if you're looking for a cheaper price
