So, I decided for whatever random reason that instead of driving out to Monticello today or going over and shooting the old part of town in Culpeper that I would get my hair highlighted and cut...
I think my instructions were pretty dang specific. Restablish the layers that have grown out and then add a few and I did say few lighter brown to caramel highlights. So, I get back this evening straighten my hair so I can see the color and i'm blonde. Not completely thank god but a hell of a lot more than i've ever dreamed of imagining myself... I did even make a joke about how I was portuguese and had no intention of ever pretending that I can be a blonde.. she laughed.. I thought she got the joke. I don't think I can wear a baseball hat to work tomorrow I definately can't wrap a scarf around my head... This sucks.. :(:(
My aunts always said nothing pisses a woman off more than a broke down car or bad hairstyle.. the car thing I've understood since my teens but the hair i'm just now getting an idea of what they meant. Somebody please admit that they wore a mullet twenty years ago or had the bowl cut something............ I don't want to go out in public until I get this fixed.

well, Sari, I agree, I hate a bad hairstyle so I understand your being mad. But are you sure it's bad, even if it's not what you planned? Will you pm a photo?

nope Lisa. it's bad. I promise. now i'm really kind of wimpy girl crying. Jeez, I've cut my hair leaning over the bathroom sink and have had no problems and now this is making me look for a paper bag.

There is no way it can be that bad.

Can you get something at the store and color over it? In all my 40 something years I've never done anything to my hair but cut it so I am clueless.

I'm sorry. I REALLY hate it when that happens. Do your friends agree it's a bummer? If so, I'd recommend putting a wash out (semi-permanent) color on it (won't damage your hair).

Yes, bad hair sucks. I used to color my own in my 20s. I've since gotten sick of it all and cut it extra short. It is starting to get lots of gray (or in my case, white), but every time I go to change the color, I wind up hating it and chopping it short again. I'm not sure why it's considered okay for men to go gray, but for women, it's some sort of tabboo. Anyway, good luck with it and try not to worry. I'm sure you think it looks worse than it actually is. Let them try to fix it. If you still hate it, cut it every six weeks until it grows out. Not many women do what I did and chop it all off. I'm not in love with my hair short, but it sure is a heck of a lot less maintenance.

i'm not home anymore. My sister LIKES it.. but her hair is currently sporting orange highlights so she doesn't get a vote. The wash out color is a good idea but the lady told me I could go back if I wasn't happy so i'd hate to go through the trouble of dying it at home if she can fix it in the salon.

When I get a bad haircut I just shave it off and start again. You could always try it if its really that bad.

I hate bad hair don'ts! Have you gotten a wash? It might take out some of the brassyness. Good luck!

Sari,
The woman who does my wifes hair says that they use Johnsons Baby Shampoo to strip out color. It's gentle to a baby's eyes, but it's murder on the hair.
Give it a shot. What have you got to lose?
As for the bad hair day, I told my wife that when my receeding forehead met my bald spot, I was going to shave it all off. Well, it isn't QUITE there, but it was beginning to look like a combover, which I won't do. So now my hair (or what's left of it) is only 1/4 of an inch long. And no. No photos from here either.
Good luck.

That's how I wear what's left of my hair. My wife does the trimming every couple of weeks.
And it has the advantage that I can comb my hair with a washrag.

And mud is a temporary, but reliable, solution in a pinch.

Shag carpeting works, but you have to get use to the green.

Do NOT buy a bottle and do it at home! If you screw it up, you'll be even more upset. Trust me, it NEVER comes out looking like the picture on the box! Been there, done that too many times, lol.

I've heard using dandruff shampoo right after coloring will remove/lessen the color!

Two words that never should go together are RANDOM and HAIRCUT.
I have had two 'fun' haircuts in my long and eventful life. The first people actually pointed and laughed. It is painful and yet also an opportunity to see full on how self obsessed we are. It was a bouffant confection of a haircut and I am thankful no images remain. I went back next day and had it all cut off and have stayed with short ever since. But you have beautiful hair and that is no solution for you.
The second in Singapore sounds kinda like your experience. I asked for very subtle grey highlights so I would look kinda mature and I came out crazy blonde. Look at the eyes man! (http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=454406&l=942fa&id=662719782)I am saying 'WTF you a**ho**?' and he is sayin' 'I ain't never gettin' outta this salon alive!!' It grew out pretty quick and actually looked cool by the time I reach Sri Lanka a month or so later. if I really wasn't happy I woulda just gone for the hair-colour approach and hid it.

There's blonde and there's bronze and orange. Sometimes you get more of the latter, which isn't very desireable.

Ok, orange is not blond. That would be horrible.

My hair was once a color that was described as "fishbowl green", although it was completely intentional. I actually received a lot of compliments, but plenty of strange looks as well.

Well, when you get a dye job that is totally not what you want, but can't be undone safely or reasonably, I say go whole hog and make it an obvious joke. Pink and green highlights come immediately to mind.
After all, laughing is much more fun than crying.

Yeah, it was pretty good ... but only after it settled down after a few weeks and had started to grow out. Until then I looked like something out of a cabaret :lol:

nothing at all.. it's just that my heritage is a bit on the Latin side.. I don't exactly have the complection to pull of light hair.

but TADA.. it's all fixed. I moved up my appointment by an hour when I got off of work early.. (I think my boss felt sorry for me. Either that or she was embarrassed to have me be there). It is now very subtle caramel highlights what I originally asked for and i'm actually pretty pleased with it.

This is why I alternate between two hair styles. 1/8" long in the summer and 1/4" long in the winter. It's mostly one color slowly changing to another color.
Glad to hear that is was fixable.
