I was just thinking for some stupid reason about the beginner studio setup I am building and have a question.... I have 1 Alien Bee 800, Sekonic L-358 and my DRebel..(hopefully soon to be a 20D). Lets say I have my light set up and take a reading right in front of my subject at say ISO100, Shutter 1/60th and f5.6. Does it matter how far away from the subject the camera is?? I would think that since there is a certain amount of time it takes the light to travel from the flash and bounce off the subject and to the camera but is that enough time to make a difference??

I guess having a day off work has gave me time to think about off the wall stuff... HAHA

Thanks,

No. Only the distance between light source and object/model matters, if there's no mist or fog inbetween.
Example: the moon is a sunlit object and far away from your camera. But you still use the same exposure as for any earth-based object.

Light travels at about 300 million meters per second, so you can assume its travel time to be instantaneous for anything here on the planet.

Light travels at about 300 million meters per second--In space. In Earth's atmosphere, only 250... and it slows down to 225 when it goes through glass

Until our earthly mechanical technology (not optoelectronic stuff) catches up with the speed of light, it won't matter too much :D
