I volunteered to take photos at an upcoming Canada Day event for our community. I'm only looking to get more experience photographing people and am not going to use the photos on my website or in a portfolio. I agreed to give our community association some of the best images on a CD and they would like to put them up on our community website. So how exactly does it work with a photo release? Would I need one? or would the community association need one?

In the US, if it's for editorial use, you wouldn't. Since you'll want peoples' names, though, it might not be a bad idea to write up a little something for them to sign agreeing to use of their pictures on the web site.

Tanya, thanks for the PM. You have it set that I can't send one back to you though.

Hi Jon,

I don't think the community association will need peoples' names. They will likely just set up a photo gallery on their website.
