Great shots on here guys.
I don't have one, but my sister lent me her Lens baby 3G.
Takes a bit to get the hang of, but fun none the less.
Here's what I have done so far.

Here is a Lensbaby 2.0 image I took with my 1Ds at iso 800. It had an interesting grain flow, and it looked a little like an oil painting so I edited the image for more contrast, shadow and saturation and pushed it to iso 1600. It's funky and I like it. BTW, the jpeg resize does not do it justice.

i'm considering of buying one of those...is it possible to take a shoot using the pinhole or zone plate through handheld or will i always need to bring a tripod with it?

I would recommend the use of a tripod. My efforts handheld have not been good.

I own that optic but don't actually use it very much. The double glass and plastic optics are my favorite.

It's impossible to rail focus with it, but depending on your use it can be pretty neat. I'm on a lot of indy sets and you see LBs being used as an aid for surrealist imagery, dream, awakening, or flashback sequences.

if you like the results, LensBaby now has the Control Freak which has threaded screws every 90 degrees so you can attain repeatable results by basically "locking" the adjustments .

What is the most used that aquires the nicest effect or what is a waste of money lens baby? (plastic, double glas,...)

What would the difference be between the official 2.0 and the first one?
Anyone tested the cheaper lens baby's from other brands between €60-€90 on Ebay ?

Cuypers1807

My most used combo is the composer + double glass. I started with a 3G and loved it but the composer allowed for more consistent results. As far as model/glass, it all really depends on the look you want to achieve.
Go on the Lensbaby website and look at the Archive of Awesomeness and plug in the combination that best fits your vision and go from there.
I believe the different between the original and 2.0 is that the 2.0 has the double glass optic. Note that the original, 2.0, and 3G do not have swappable optics.

First, third, and fourth were on double glass. Second is on the edge 80. I can put some macros up when I get home to the lappy. Also some normal portraits with the 80. It is a great double duty optic. And thank you.

Scratch the edge 80 macros. I forgot it just doesn't get close enough. I do macros with the double glass. But here are some edge 80 candids, shot with it centered to work as a normal 80mm lens.

Hi again BobbyT,

The Edge 80 looks to be a great standard "prime" lense. But I love the tilt shift that you can achieve with it as well.

And your macros are great! I had also been looking at the macro kit for the Lensbaby as well, and those shots of yours have made me want it even more.

*sigh* - Lensbaby's... There is just always something to love with them!

have purchased the Muse w/ plastic optic recently and am looking to add to the kit. 1st on my list is the double glass and the wa/tele kit.

for those who have used both is there much of a difference between the double and single glass optics??
Know the double gives you the sharpest images, but having the plastic don't quite know if single is needed. Thinking of going with the pinhole/zone plate for a totally different option/look.

kencas
15th of July 2012 (Sun), 00:28
Well I have all four of them - DG, SG, Plastic and P/ZP along with the Edge 80, Sweet 35 and Soft Focus optics (oh - plus the macro kits and wide/tele adapters).

Each of them have their very own distinctive looks, and whilst they can be subtle from each to each, beyond the extremes of the ranges things such as flare, backlighting, specular light all add sufficient difference to make them all interestingly unique.

Single glass replicates the orginal Lensbaby (which I started with and still have as a kickaround lense). It gives a slightly diffused image not much diffent from when one used to put a soft diffuser on the front of a lense to soften the image for portraiture, whereas the DG is superbly sharp in the zone of focus.

Either way - they are addictively fun so you will probably end up with them all anyway... :-)

Hooroo,

Ken.

thanks for the input Ken!!... you are right it can be additive......fun having a hands-on challenge.

have a little over 2 weeks to decide what to purchase next before my annual 10 day festival shoot.

the DG and wa/tele kit are definites. Will go with the Accessory kit to get the wa/tele.
The single is also in the game plan. Like to keep my options open.

As you said, will probably end up with it all.

Once again BobbyT you have shown how brilliantly Lensbaby's can be used! These ^^^ are awesome, and the ones previous of the tree and grass are almost ethereal!

Thanks again...

Ken.

Thank you, Ken. I love the versatility of lensbaby. It is always with me even if I'm carrying my 85 1.4 and 35 1.4.

I treated myself to a new 'Spark' in December, the last couple of days we've had reasonable weather so I decided to give it a try out.

It was a bit of juggling match getting it in focus while using live view, as I had my 'astronomik pro-planet 807' filter in as well, so its a lensbaby/infrared shot in one.

I don't know how it is that I'd never heard of these lenses before, but I'm very intrigued! For someone just looking into trying them out for the first time, should I go for a Composer Pro, Composer, Spark, etc? Despite what anyone says, I think the images here have proven the potential of these things, they look fantastic!

I have both the Composer and Composer pro. The Composer Pro, at least in my opinion, is the best of the lot. It has a better build quality than the Composer and the Composer series is the easiest to use as far as setting your focus and point of focus and then taking the picture. The Spark looks too much like the original lens baby which never did appeal to me but to each their own. If cheap is what you want then go with the Spark but if you want a good solid system go with the Composer pro. I would have went with the Composer Pro from the start but it had not been introduced when I originally bought my Composer.

When the Lensbaby was first introduced I swore that was one photography product I would never buy. I am not a big fan of selective focus especially selective focus done badly or over done. I kind of forgot about the Lensbaby until one day I saw an ad for the Composer and the different optics you could use. I saw a real use for that product so I bought one and several lenses but I have yet to find a real opportunity to use them. I am not that creative of a person but I do have them in case some day that opportunity presents itself.
