I took this today with my new 300d, its a whole new ball game compared to the Fujis5000 i had.
the shot is cropped and ive cloned out a small bit of building from the lower corner, but what could i have done to make this better?

The obvious thing is the White Balance is off, wayyyyyyyyyyy tooooooooo cyan. Try this:

This is a very easy fix in Photoshop Elements. So easy, in fact, that even though I have CS, I still use Elements for Color Cast problems.

Nice perspective. I do think the white balance is off, as Radd said. Still it makes great imagery for me.

From an artistic perspective I rather like the bluish cast - a matter of taste, perhaps? I like the drama of it - both classy and classic.

I tend to agree with Bodryn, I like the look of the bright blue background - to me it loses something in the corrected photo.

I liked the first one also. Just my taste.

this is the original picture, resized so it isnt so large so quiality suffers, but you get an idea of the lighting in general...it was mid afternoon on a cold day in England

Does it look any good in black and white?

I like the first one better. The "correction" seems more like it was taken at a different time of day. It's really a subjective call though.
