hard to be sure with the naked eye but I suspected the well reviewed Chantry knife sharpener was creating a serrated edge on my knife which would explain why it fails the paper cut test. The MP-E revealed I was right:

well I don't think Robert De Niro's character in The Fan would have any more luck selling these sharpeners to backwoodsmen than he had with his cheap Korean hunting knives!

So the lines are new? I don't see how this sharpener could do that. Took me a minute to get past the bristle brush mirage though. :)

Hiya Toby,
Excellent shot, "turns knives into saws" love that
Something I always carry with me in the field is this

it's excellent for Honing, I found the Chantry to be far to rough, it good for a basic cut back & that's about all, no disrespect intended just my experience
Cheers for now

I do it the old fashioned way. Although I do have coarse and smooth Arkansas stones, I am now using a diamond embedded flat steel that is shaped just like a stone and used the same way, only dry. I have never seen anything sharpen a hard blade as sharp or as fast as this. Ceramics can't come close.

you can get it sharper than that just using a grinding wheel :D. nah just kidding. i use a stone myself for my hunting knives and broadhead for my bow. do you have a straight down shot of it too. sorry to hear that it ruin your knife though.
