Another flash or a flash bracket? I see two flash reflections on the 17-40.

DING DING IDNG, 420EX
It's not mine though.
Anyways, i'd like to get two more for when i'm shooting B-ball games at the highschool. There is an upper track that allows for easy access to mount flashes right above the rims.
The thing i've found though is that you cant shoot in manual mode because the 420EX does not.
Is there any way to controll the flashes output for the 420 from the 550?
or should i just get 500 sigma's instead?

I believe you can control ratios from the master.

I eventually got it to work, you still have to be in ETTL though. So, i think i'm gonna get the sigmas when the time comes :-)

I do not about yours but my 420EX shoots in manual mode just fine.

I'm refering to the flash its self. The 550/580 EX (canon speedlights) and the Sigma 500 DG allow you to manually (thus the name) adjust the output of the flash its self. This is not to be confused with flash exposer compensation, rather, you actually adjust the output

Tiimmy,
Have you checked to make sure that wireless ETTL is going to work from that distance? You may have to go with obtical slave which the Sigma can do but then again anybody's flash will fire them off. If wireless ETTL will work from that distance, let us know because i def I'm interested.

Welp, it sure has crossed my mind. The track is about...i'd say 7 feet above the top of the backboard. The rim is 10 feet above the court, so thats what? 18 feet? Sounds about right.
Anyways, i typically sit under the hoop so i'd be pretty close to the flash, but as you know a gym is fairly large. I'm not sure if i'm gonna buy my own for this season, but i do have my girlfriends now (she's yet to see it :-) ). I've got a few games in the middle of january for the paper, i may even have to go and play around on another night.
I'll keep ya posted. I dont htink i've seen anyone try this, but i dont know of many people with such easy access to the top of a gym.
**EDIT**
BTW, even if i used light to set off the flashes (Which i didnt knwo you could do with the sigmas, notch another point), not too many flashes go off during the games other then mine.

They make slave triggers for like $15 that you can attach to the shoe of any flash So if you go Canon you arent in the dark (pun intended)

your flashes, even though they are close to each other most likely can't see each other, since they both point to the same direction.
Pocket wizards is the answer!

Well, like i said, i'm going to try it out and see what happens. IR bounces, it's just a matter of how much.
