can anyone tell me why when I use my new 580II as fill flash out side that the focus seems to be alot softer. Am I doing something wrong here or is this normal when using flash...Im a flash noob :p Also its alot grainier

The focus in the image itself (i.e. through the lens) or the light emitted by the flash?

Can you provide more details about exposure and/or an example.

Flash would not affect noise/grain at all, and should help accurate focusing.

BUT, you can still have slow shutter speeds (based on ambient light) with fill flash that could cause soft images.
