Hey.

Well i want to organize my photos a little better but im having a little trouble.

At the moment im using lightroom to import my photos to the computer, it imports them into a folder called 2008, then it creates a new folder for every date of shooting.

For example, on the 3 of january, it creates a seperate folder labeled 2008-01-03. I've set it up recently to start naming the actual files with the date built in, so this is uneseccary atm.

I want to have a folder structure something like

2008
---> January
------>date of photo.custom name.number of photo.

Is that the best way to set it up?

So how do i get lightroom to do this?

How would i change all my old photos to this structure, withotu messing up my lightroom catalog?

Thanks!

its the best way if you can find what your looking for quickly :-)

well atm im just using lightroom and keywords, so it works fine,however im really limited to lightroom in finding any photo.

I want to also be able to do it outside of lightroom, just using the folders

I just do a folder for each event or trip etc. Then a folder for the RAW files and another for the edited tiffs or jpegs.

I hate the date way. I may not be able to remember when I went to Yosemite but I can find the Yosemite folder.

nice guys thanks.

Ye i was thinking that dates can't be the most effiecient way of doing things.

Could people post their categories they use to organise the photos?

Would be helpfull in helping me set up my list.

Thanks
