Yes several years ago there was a problem. I had an affected card. I had it repaired when it lost a picture, then I lost another and ask for a new replacement. Lexar replaced it for free.
It was the 80x 1GB card, the one you referenced is not the one.

I had two of the funky Lexar cards, both 80x 1gig cards. Both would from time to time loose pics. The Lexars now stay in my Nikon where they do not have an issue and I no longer use Lexar cards for my Canon gear.

Lexar has done some funky things in the past, including if I recall a card reader that wasn't friendly to other brands of cards. For simplicity, I've avoided the brand ever since. I have one 1GB card.

I've got several Lexar cards of varying capacities and speeds that I use in a number of Canon bodies with no issues to date at all.

The only CF that I have ever had stopped working in a Canon camera has been a Lexar! Coincidence, bad luck, good example of issues that can be encountered...?! The CF would work anywhere else, just not in a Canon P&S or dSLR!

As davidfig and gjl711 suggested, the problem was specifically with early versions of the Lexar 80x cards, when used in cameras with the Digic II chip. Presumably the same problem would occur with a Digic III chip. That problem does not occur with Lexar cards other than 80x.
The Lexar replacement (RMA) page is here: http://store.lexar.com/firmware/
Lexar apparently has removed the text of the announcement from their site. You can read the original text at DPReview (http://www.dpreview.com/news/0506/05061001lexar_80xcards.asp).

Canon still has the reference to this up: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=PgComSmModDisplayAct&fcategoryid=215&modelid=10464&keycode=2112&id=25573#CFCard

Oh geez, not again!
This is very out-dated info. This particular problem occurred way back when the 20D was first introduced in 2004, and effected some camera models for a year or so after that.
We're in 2008 and up to the 40D now folks. Please note the dates in some of the links you are referencing.
It had to do with two things: Canon changed their file type (CRW to CR2) and Lexar changed their cards. For a brief time, there were some compatibility issues with one type of Lexar cards: a then-new 80X that were using a new "Write Accelerated" technology and/or firmware.
Lexar dealt with the problems years ago and there's really not been any issue since. I use 4 Lexar CF cards, including two of those particular 80x ones, in three Canon D-SLRs without any issues. I also have a Sony card and a number of Sandisk cards. They all work just fine.
The only recent, documented memory card issue was very brief. Initially there were intermittent "lockup" problems with the new 1Ds Mark III writing to certain cards. Sandisk is the only brand I recall, but I think there were others as well. Also, occasionally, there were artifacts being added to images. Best guess, this had to do with the sheer size of the file being generated by the 1Ds M3, but I don't know for certain and Canon ain't telling. Firmware updates to the camera resolved the problem quickly.
Anyone buying any new D-SLR is advised to download the free firmware updates and install them immediately. This is because there are nearly always "glitches" with new released cameras, and sometimes memory chips, too.

Certainly there were problems with Lexar CF cards some years ago but you're the first I've heard of for some years in having a problem with them.
I'm sorry I can't help, but perhaps it may be wise to just bypass the issue in future and go with Sandisk?
