Here is my first attempt at a Speedway event. Great atmosphere, noise and at times the light was excellent. Mud was thrown up at every turn requiring me to rotate as soon as the image was recorded to protect the camera.

1D MK3, 70-200 lens at 200mm, 1/1000 f5.6

C&C welcome.

Thanks

As far as I can remember Berwick's statium is quite small and there is little distance between you and the bikes so on a dry dusty day you are going to get a lot of shale in the air. Must be a pain keeping the camera clean.

I like the shot, though I think you could reduce the shutter speed a bit, increase motion blur on the spokes and bigger dust clouds it also would increase the DOF to see if the second bike could be more in focus.

I take it getting on the centre green was not an option?

Excellent shot. :-) I don't think I've ever seen such a dusty speedway shot. It really adds to the action.

Hi Alan,

No I wasn't an official photographer and didn't have the confidence to ask.

Thanks for your feedback.

I really like it as it stands. The dust conveys the impression of speed, and the plain brown contrasts nicely with, and draws your attention to, the riders and their machines.

I've been thinking of paying the Newcastle Diamonds a visit for a while, this has persuaded me to go. :D
