Not a lot of explanation needed, I suppose. Just decided to go out and play with the camera for an hour. The northern terminus of the Natchez Trace Parkway is about 10 miles from our home, and I'd never really used it as a photography object. The light wasn't the greatest today, but it's still a fascinating subject. Contrasts, swoops, long shots, close shots, yada yada. Hope you enjoy! :)

Great pics. That's a cool looking bridge.

Glad you enjoyed them! It's the largest "something or other" in the world, and really stands out because it's in the middle of nowhere.

The Natchez Trace is kind of like a tame version of the Blue Ridge Parkway. I'm not sure if you've heard of either. But I have been to Moncton twice! :)

Have driven Blue Ridge Parkway a few times, but never the "Trace". It's still on my list of things to do.

Thanks, folks! Glad you've enjoyed them. Here's more info:

The Natchez Trace Parkway Bridge is the nation's first segmentally constructed concrete arch bridge. Spanning 502 m (1,648 feet), the double arch structure offers motorists a view from 47m (155 feet) above the valley floor and is one of the final links in the Natchez Trace Parkway project. The bridge's arches are designed to support the deck without evenly spaced spandrel columns, resulting in a picturesque, unencumbered appearance.

I need to go back in when everything is green and when there's more light.

Here's my very first attempt at editing a RAW file. The first is of an expansion joint. The second is a 100% crop of the same:

Good shots.. I know that bridge well, makes me want to shoot it now. I have lots of family in Louisiana and everytime I drive down there, I make it a point to drive the Natchez Trace. Beautiful scenery and TONS of wildlife.

Yes, especially wild turkey! Though they, and the deer, seem to stay on the side of the road and not on it, which is courteous of them.

Speaking of a beautiful road to drive on, here's a video I shot of it exactly one year ago today. It's about 2.5 minutes long and is more artistic in nature, with music.

That video was shot from my Ducati ST4s. Currently I own a BMW1200GS and Kawasaki KLR650.

My normal home is a discussion board I own for BMWs:

My dad took his life on this bridge. He jumped on Nov 15, 2004. I wanted to see pics of it since I cant bring myself to go there. Thanks for providing some good images even though they make me so sad...

Wow. My deepest condolences, Lisa. You may not want them, but if you do, I'd be glad to send you digital versions or prints of any of these.

This bridge is about 10 miles from my home and I go there often.

Thanks for posting.

That is such a sad post. I was just about to log off when I decided to look at one more thread and this just stopped me cold. It's incredible knowing what different memories or impressions a picture can evoke from different people. I see that this is your first post. I hope that you can share some of your pictures with us and that you will find some small pleasures here that can help you past your loss.

My condolences,

Jim
