Hi all I've tried to find the answer to this before but have never got to the bottom of it :(
I've got two PocketWizards Plus II's and a 580EX II and will soon have a 430EX. I would like to do some strobist stuff and trigger the 580EX II via the PocketWizards off camera and have that trigger the 430ex in sync. Is this possible?
Any help would be great!
Thanks,
Devs. ;)

now I swear on my life I achieved a 550 and 580 sync purely from a single ebay trigger on the 580 (was ages and was messing around not really taking note of setup). But when I came to doing a shot with a friend I put the trigger on my 550 the 580 (slaved) didn't respond. Certainly the 580 and the 550 (slaved) it works.

Yes, it will, under the following conditions:
1) A hotshoe adapter is used to connect the PW unit to the 580EX II ( the PC port on the flash is disabled when the flash is set to Master mode).
2) The master flash is set to manual mode.
3) The slave flash is set to ETTL mode if its output is set from the master or to manual mode if its output is set on the slave itself.
4) The shutter speed is set to no faster than 1/125.

The 580EX II PC jack is not active in the Master-Manual mode, unless you have the "Re-Wire Mod for 580EX II" done first, so as a workaround, the 580EX II will have to be connected to the PW via a hot shoe adapter. The other PW will be in the camera hot shoe, and the 430EX will be in SLAVE mode, while the 580EX II is in Master-Manual mode.
The sync speed is limited to 1/125 sec, I believe, as once the 580EX II gets the signal from the PW, it has to then do a pre-flash to trigger the 430EX.

I refer to this as "hybrid" triggering. Part fundamental sync, part Canon infrared.
Enjoy! Lon

Thats excellent news guys I can't wait to receive my 430 now I just got the PWs last night and they have opened up a whole new kind of photography!
Does anyone have a link to the hot shoe adapters or know where they can be bought in the UK as I couldn't see them on ebay.
Also Michael do you know where I'll find further info on the Re-Wire Mod for the 580EX II. This sounds interesting...
Thanks again,
Devs.

Do a Google search for either phrase, there are plenty of places to get the hot shoe adapter. You can even get a standard "hot shoe to pc plug" adapter, and then add a "pc jack to mini plug" adapter to the end, or cut the pc plug end off the wire, and solder on a mini plug.
Here is an example of the "hot shoe to pc plug adapter":

Go with Flashzebra. If you have any problems he'll be here to help. If you have questions, just contact Lon directly. I've bought all my hot shoe adapters and pc cords from him and I would do so again.

The 580EX II will have to be connected to the PW via a hot shoe adapter.
I'm in the UK and would like to get up and running a.s.a.p so as much as I would like to purchase from Lon, its not really possible this time.
I've spotted this on ebay and just wanted to double check that its got the correct connections for me?

That one looks like it has a PC connector. You will need one with a mini-plug to connect to the PW.
Here is the one available from flashzebra.
