These aren't as close and clear as the zoo/museum shots, but were fun to see and shoot in the wild. Wolf Lodge Bay in Lake Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, has many eagles this time of year eating the local Kokanee (fresh water salmon). You can see many roosting in the fir trees surrounding the lake, sometimes up to 5 in one tree. I shot these with my Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM lens and EF 1.4 extender on my 300D.

Coming back home from Montana I stopped at the north end of this lake and spent the better part of the day watching Ospreys fish. I had yet to get a really good lens, so the shots of them diving into the water came out too small, and become too grainy on enlargement. But better to have a mediocre shot than no shot at all...

It was amazing to watch them dive INTO the water, then try and take off while grasping a freshly caught fish.

In the summer I have seen a large quantity of Eagles along the Kootenai reservoir, as you head north from Libby. That's where all the Eagles on my site came from.
