Sorry to bring up this old chestnut but the whole area of Photographers rights and the powers of the Police, CPSOs and private security in the UK to stop you taking photographs and to confiscate your camera or memory cards is still a bit confusing.

can anyone enlighten me ?

BTW, although security can ask you not to take pictures at a certain location, only the police can confiscate your camera and they have to have a very good reason to do that.
