Not sure yet which one this is but I have had quite a few of these in the garden lately. Funny little things they are when they land on the flower, they just seem to plop down on it lol.

LOvely capture Linda- It's a Leaf cutter bee. Just had one ID'd on WAB. I made a comment about it collecting pollen around it's bum instead of on the rear legs. The reply from eucera the bee expert there- "Classic Megachile (Leaf-cutter bee). All the Megachilid bees that collect pollen store it in a scopa on the underside of the abdomen"

Check out the edges of new leaves on your camelias if you have any - mine have hot lots of nearly circular holes on them :)

Hiya Linda,

Lovely shots of a ' Leaf Cutter' I've some in the garden but damned if I can capture them, they seem to love my Gooseberry Bush.

Cheers for now
Mark

Thanks Brian - yes, I saw your post on there and Eucera's reply. He has confirmed mine is also a Megachile. I havent seen any chunks bitten out of my camelia but there are other plants around the garden with bite marks lol. I dont mind though, its no big deal having chunks out of the leaves

I have seen a few smaller bees in the garden too which I must try and get some pics of.

Thanks Mark. This one wasnt too bad because I was sitting on the ground and patiently waiting, but I find any bee is difficult to get pics of as they are almost constantly moving.

Thanks Alistair :D

I like the 40D very much but I am finding that it exposes slightly differently to my previous 2 cameras - the 300D and 350D - so am having to get to know how to deal with it in bright sun. With the FEC on the 40D I am mostly having to do -2/3rds FEC and sometimes then highlights can be rather bright, but with the other cameras I rarely went to -2/3rds.

Obviously I can darken the lighter areas in post processing but I like to get as close as I can in the first place. Maybe its because I am used to having slightly darker results that I am thinking they are too bright, I dunno lol.

Im not as good as you guys at photography anyway, but Ill keep striving to get better lol.

I like the size and feel of the camera and its very responsive. I have a couple of weeks off work soon so hopefully Ill get more practice with it.
