Which one shows a bigger number and what ISO do you have set in the Creative Zone? As an FYI, the higher the ISO, the bigger a given image will be and hence, the smaller the number shown for the capacity. In Basic mode, the ISO can be anything between ISO 100 and, I think, ISO 400, so I imagine capacity in Basic mode will be determined by the approximate number of ISO 400 images the card can hold.

The "quality" affects how much an image can be compressed. Also in the "Basic" zone, the calculations on available images assume the ISO used can be anywhere from 100 to 400; if you're in the Creative Zone, the ISO is fixed; as you change it, the expected number of shots will change. But remember - that number of shots left is strictly an estimate, not a hard and fast count like it would be with film.
