newbie question canon i960? black colors?

I just registered to this forum and i would like to ask a question regarding my recently bought canon i960 printer. The colors look fine, i even tried driver settings from a member here, but my problem is the black color on my prints. they dont seem to go well with the picture. in sections of a photo that contains mostly black color like "hair" they dont have detail and i think the printers sending too much black ink. any suggestions would help. thanks

Are you using canon paper? that happened to me when i tried kodak.
Also make sure your printer, monitor and photoshop are callibrated in sync.

HP paper is not a good match either. Ilford is one of the better papers to use with Canon printers.
