HENK

You dude it dude.

100%

Pass Go and collect some well deserved applause !

HOWIE

PS:
Would it be possible to get the sun hooked behind the top crescent ? If so, wold that look too much like a set-up?

PPS:
The one morning shot that I would have to see is the shot that fits ; "The Rubaiyat" of Omar Khayyam. You know, the line (not from the Edward J. Fitzgerald translation) that says "... And lo, the hunter of the east has caught the sultan's turret in a noose of light..."

My gosh. Can you say poster quality? That's fantastic! My recommendation? Leave exactly as is.

Good shot, wonderful composition and excellent silhouetted foreground of the minarets.
Technically speaking...perfectly executed.

Its one of the best pictures I have seen in this forum.

May I know the specifications for this picture.

Thanks for the comments all. I was already looking for something like this for some time. Found this one about 5 minutes from my house. Timing was lucky, but now I know where to go. Will give it another go and try to FOCUS this time. Also to get the sun behind the tower (for Howie :D).

Everyone agrees that this is a lovely shot.

I don't think I need the sun behind the minaret.
It might make the shot too narrow.

What I would like to see is the orb of the sun more
subdued. For me it is rather too bright.
With it dimmer ( easily done ) the image would have
more balance without the great brightness range.

Then the mosque would show up more and make it easier to enjoy the silhouette and the whole composition.

not being an expert for passing critical remarks on what I see on this post I didn't put in any say
on what I thought of this picture of the ' Mosque before sunset'
although I wanted to
and then when I saw elands (hals) remarks here,
it expressed my thoughts exactly .

The 'sun' is far too bright
it looked all wrong to me right from the word go,
like a big bright artificial yellow beach ball
and does nothing for the picture at all (I think)
looks out of sync .......
or something

may I just ask please
was the picture ' touched up' with u know what
or was it really like that in the first place ?

just giving my opinion
(which I value : )

Thanks, Marie, picture is just as it was, just a little cropping and adjustment of levels, nothing else. Will try to dim the sun a little and see if it improves.

Henk,

This is a very nice image. For me the minaret looks just a tiny bit slanted to the right. It might be an optical illusion because I did download a copy to play with and couldn't get a version I was 100% happy with as the image size is too small.

I think you have several possibilities to produce different versions of the shot. I played with curves and there is a wonderful range of colour in the sky that is not obvious in your original presentation. It's easy to add blown highlights to the sun, so I created a feathered mask and used the inverse to lighten with sky and leave the sun alone. The minaret could be shown lighter with more detila visible or darker with more silhouette, either way looked good.

I would not leave this image as it is. I think you have a good digital negative that could produced a great image with some more work in the digital darkroom. :)

Yes Roger, I also felt that the picture was slightly crooked. I'm glad to see you already tried adjusting it because I was about to do so.

I agree, Roger, but when I checked with the rulers it appears to be level. Might play around with it a bit more after I get a copy that is mor in focus.
