ok I have a Canon Powershot A300 and I use the movie mode quite often for my daughter. well, the camera says its a AVI file format but when I load my movies to my computer it turns it into a MVI formnat and I cant find a MVI hosting place so I need to convert it to either a AVI or a WMV HOW DO I DO THAT?
Please help a mother in need:)

Hi Mom, you might try right clicking on the file and renaming the extension from .mvi to .avi or .wmv.
My A400 puts out the video to .avi format, but changing it to .wmv doesn't do anything except gives me an error message in Windows Media Player 10 saying that, " The file you are attempting to play has an extension that does not match the file format..." After which I just click on YES allowing it to play it, and off it goes.
This is a fairly common technique to bypass hosting solutions' file type limits, and it doesn't alter the file at all, but it may render a system unable to play a certain file or whatever. In that case, just make a note to the recipient to change the file format back to .mvi if their chosen media player barfs on the file association.

Is your computer Windows XP? It comes with a movie maker program that if you upgrade(free) to version 2 is actually a fairly dencent video editor. It will convert your movies to WMV in a variety of sizes. The program is a little clunky, but it does work.

Hi
I have used a program calle STOIK Video Converter (Free download). I found it by searching on the http://www.videohelp.com/ That page has a lot of help options, well, just look around there.
