I doubt you will see a review like that in print. Most I have seen compare the DSC-F717 to Minolta's DiMAGE 7Hi and Nikon's Coolpix 5700. Most likly this is because Canon stuck to the 4.0 Mp and the latest and greates from other manufactures are 5 mp. As a canon man D30 and D60 I was amazed that they didn't update the CCD in the G3 to keep up with the competition.

You must know quality isn't about the amount of megapixels, it's about the combination of lens and CCD.

When talking about picture quality, the G2 (and G3) can be compared to most 4 or 5mp prosumer cameras.

Well, there may some diffrences such as the MP but overall I can't wait to get my G3 over F717. I had G2 for two months and I loved it. Every shot was in focus. But...I sold it and got F717, bad move. I could not get any focus using the Laser. If you are out by just little bit the whole photo is OOF. The photos were not as sharp as my G2. I compared it. They were a lot softer. I mean there were some good shots but without the Laser. But if I Pay more than $1K than I want a good camera. I returned that sucker. The salesman talked me into the G3, even though she didn't have any clue of what features the G3 has. I know the G3 is going to be just as good as my G2..I would not recomend F717, you will have to take 3 shots just be on the safe side.

There are many (30+) threads of conversation about that topic at Phil Askey's site, Digital Camera Reviews. The URL is: http://www.dpreview.com/.

Just go to the Canon Forum and do a search on G3 vs 717 you will see plenty or just scan the topic headings it is a very active conversation.
