eugene's a mad man...have seen some great high energy photos from him. these are not too bad, a bit soft and could use a bit more 'oomph' (being in the pit would have helped tremendously) but again some decent shot here.

they are a good band to shoot and you captured a few good moments.
Not editing your photos is not a point to promote, and nor is it an excuse for anything the audience may pick up. Many photographers won't even release their stuff to the public until they give it a once over, and even a levels adjustment/curves could benefit these photos.

well obviously. it was more a comment on my lack of editing software, and hoping people would comment on things like composition. but I guess it failed.

Hardly worth taking your bat and ball and going home over.
What about the editing software that ships with Canon DSLRs? DPP is very good if you take the time to learn to use it.
Post processing is very important to get the most out of shots from your DSLR. You posted wanting comments and someone mentioned that some post processing would make a big difference. Hardly something to get your knickers in a knot over.

"bat and ball"? "knickers in a knot"?
Did I come across as super upset? I don't get it.
I tried to delete this thread but it wouldn't let me.

That you want to delete the thread and have retracted the photos ... that does seem like you got upset.

to the OG poster, if you ever plan on making it in photography you need thicker skin. Now did I see the photos no, did I see how ones comments effected you? yes. You need to take what people think and take a second to think about it. Posting your photos means your willings to be critiqued and people see that as a time to be honest and to better help the photographer under stand how he or shes audience feels about there work.
I have put 5 hours into a photo this week and posted and not a single comment, that hurts more then no comments at all. For many and esp for photographers having our work critiqued is a must. Because if one day you choose to take your work further and try top make a living or just for extra cash and everyone you show your photos to sugar coats there feeling your end work will suffer and you wont have a clue why. Just a thought

i mean i wasn't hurt or anything by comments... i agreed that the photos shouldn't be posted before some editing after some thought. believe me my skin is plenty thick, it seems i took them down for different reasons than you assume.

Well your missing the beauty of this forum, you post what you think looks great or a photo or style that you like and other share there honest opinion. I personally would love to see the photos so I could see what "I" think of them and offer any advice I see that might help

It's not like they were that bad. Like 99.9% of all photos, they had a little room for improvement. If you do get around to doing some pp or whatever (or not), post them up again. Shots of Gogol Bordello are meant to be enjoyed!
Letsmakeart has a big mouth and he doesn't realize that not everyone is a pro or striving for perfection (no offense meant btw lets...just making assumptions based on the avatar). That said, his blunt and honest critique is the best thing that most of us could hope for.
Be well bwell. ;)

I am now intrigued by these mysterious photos. Can't remember if I looked at them while they were still posted.
Take or leave people's criticisms/suggestions on this site. Some people like vanilla and others like chocolate, but doesn't mean that either are wrong. If pics are for personal use, it don't matter what others think but someone might give you a suggestion or two that you do agree with. If people are paying you for them, then it does sort of matter what the person paying you thinks. Many people don't like my pictures, and some of the criticisms I found helpful and others not so much.

You've assumed I have a big mouth and don't realise things just based on a picture of some weird guy? Sounds pretty stupid to me.
I have taught photography, the very basics, and I know as well as anyone that it isn't about ripping a photo to shreds as much as giving 1 - 3 points to possibly improve on. Any more and the point will be lost.
I leave the expectations for myself, and if someone wants feedback I don't see what is wrong with providing that. I also believe that there is no stopping someone who constantly improves no matter what their level of understanding is.
Editing needn't be a stressful process, it can be as easy as opening up a photo and saying "yknow... I don't feel like this needs improving" or doing a quick auto levels. And if someone wants to experiment or spend a while editing away, then all power to them.

Sorry, I wasn't being serious...should have included the ;). It's just that we have a range of shooters on here...everything from pro to p&s from the crowd, and it's only natural that there will be times when the level of expectations doesn't quite jive. I think your feedback is great.

haha, I didn't mean to start this big ordeal.
but anyway i got a photoshop trial and screwed around with the levels and curves. Mind you I'm new and don't really know what I'm doing with the levels and curves, can anyone point me to a good tutorial on the forum or otherwise? I've may have overdone it on some or all of these for all i know, but hey, i shall post them due to popular demand X-D
again, these are hosted by facebook which is a terrible hosting site, my flickr monthly limit has been reached and this is my most easily accessible at the moment. anyway, C&C is appreciated despite what it may seem from the rest of this thread, haha.

Now, see - I love 'em.
I think they suit the band perfectly. While it may not be the right effect for a wedding or something, I think it's a perfect capture of Gogol Bordello.
I'm no critic though.

looking good, id just bring the red back a little bit either through levels, curves or with hue & saturation (adding yellow and bringing the sat down a few points with this method).
levels is probably the easiest tho. Have a play, you'll get there.
