View Full Version : Handling requests for full-size pictures?

So you go out for a day, take a few hundred shots, select the good ones, crop them, process them, and post them on the web in a small-ish format. Then someone emails you asking for a high-resolution full-size image. What do you send them by default?

1) The original image, uncropped and unprocessed
My thinking here is "let them do what they want with it"

2) The cropped and processed version, full-size
This seems to make sense, but if they want to use it for a wallpaper for example, the cropped dimensions might not be useful

3) Uncropped, processed
I'm sure most people wouldn't want to do their own processing, but if they can crop the way they like they can do whatever they want with it (print, wallpaper etc)

What's your opinion?

Please keep in mind that I am not doing this for profit.

Thanks!

I think I would make a decision based on WHO was asking for the image and WHY they were asking for the image.

If it was a personal friend and he/she wanted it for his/her own personal use I would have no problem with it.

If there was any probability that someone else would profit from my image (by selling it or using it in their effort to sell something), I would most certainly either refuse the request or get paid appropriately for the image and its expected use.

13inches,
Well seeing how you posted a cropped edited photo, I suggest option 2) The cropped and processed version, full-size

Do they want a print or file? ???
either way I still go for option 2 unless they stated otherwise. :)
This is going on the assumption that you don't mind giving your photo to them....
