Just got finished calibrating my monitor with spyder2express. Very simple to
install and use. Helped to make images on monitor much more accurate compared to prints with no adjustments by printer. Black, white and gray
vastly improved. Color improved also. I would recommend this product
to anyone who wants a more accurate approximation of what prints will
look like when finished. Image on my monitor seems to be about 1/3 stop
hotter than prints and blues seem to be just a little washed. This can
be compensated for very easily.

Welcome to the wonderfull world of color managed workflows :)

Most screens are way too bright by default...
If you can set a target luminosity anywhere, you should be going for about 120Cd/m^2 for an LCD...

As for the blues looking "Washed out": Are you comparing a print to a softproof of the image?

You might want to read the link in my sig ;)

Thanks for the input. I am using the software which came with the
Canon to edit RAW files, I don't know if the program is color corrected
or not. I have discovered that viewing angle of the monitor has and
effect on the image. If I look directly at the monitor from a level and
straight-on angle the blue problem vanishes and the light level is much
closer to the print, try it look at a LCD monitor from different angles and
you will see.
