Has anyone had thier canon 300d sent back to canon service center for dark flash exposure?

I would guess that many Canons have been sent back for that reason. I would also guess that 80% of them turn out to be user error.

Could be operator error, but my shots would be right on in one pic and 2 stops under exposed next pic same subject.

Are you giving enough time for the flash to recharge? That said... ETTL is a bit mysterious at the best of times. Most common problem is when users focus and recompose. If you do tha then you need to focus, hit the FEL button then recompose.
