I have been away from the list for a while, it is turning into a busy summer . Took these pics of a local mantis shrimp, Squilla empusa. . Unlike the previous mantis I posted (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=431570) that uses its claws to smash its prey, this species has sharp, dagger like claws to slash its prey with. Local fisherman call them "knuckle splitters".

And here is a look at the whole shrimp that is about 7 inches.

never been hit by one of those, but one that we kept at the aquarium broke a 10 gallon fish tank. One punch and it shattered the glass!

Yea those are the bane of salt water aquarium keepers... they'll come in, hidden inside a piece of live rock, and you won't realize until your prize Angel goes missing or you wake up to a flooded floor and broken glass. Nice pics though!
