LR: Adjusting blacks versus adjusting blacks on the tone curve

In LR, what is the difference in Adjusting the blacks slider versus adjusting darks on the tone curve.

I've been toying with both and they seem to give similar results.

It's supposed to be the same. But it looks to me like the blacks slider limits mostly just to the black. But when moving it on the curve it pulls the shadows up or down a little with it creating the S curve.

I thought you were supposed to use the blacks slider to define where blacks begin in the RAW data, curves just manipulates the RGB values after.

Yes, the slider is black clipping. Its like levels in photoshop.
