Hello,
The flash is too powerful and usually unnecessary on the A75.
Any way to set the flash off as the default?
If not, is there any way to reduce the flash strength default?
I know you can do this with the 'Manual' setting but I'm looking to do this with Auto settings.
Thanks,

No expert here but I believe the only mode that allows you to reduce flash output is manual mode.

If you press up on the multifunction button it wil turn the flash off.
Depending your shooting mode it lets you cycle through, On, Off, Red eye, Auto.

yes, I understand you can use the multifunction button to toggle the flash on/off. But once you switch to view mode and then back to camera mode the flash defaults back to 'on'.
I was hoping there was a way to default to 'off'.

Interesting, and I can see how annoying it could get.
My A80 stays in the mode I last left it in, even if I switch between different shooting modes and preview mode.
I wonder if its a spefic problem with the A75?

No, it's not a specific problem with the A75
I have the A75 and it also stays in the mode when I turn the camera off and back on.
The flash on short distance needs a lot of testing and experience with the shutter speed.

Hi,
I'm new to the forum, and a new canon user too. i got my A75 as a present too, and i think is a great camera. i think the flash is just fine. i used to use a sony and the flash never worked. i think you could set the flash off as a default by setting it off on the P function in this way everytime that you want to take a picture without a flash u will just need to turn to P. however you have to notice that when u turn the flash off it is harder for the camera to focus so if u move it while taking the pic. it would come blured or with some noise.
Hope this helps,

In auto mode, the camera always reverts to defaults after you turn it off. The camera remembers your settings in the manual mode.

It shows it in the manual p. 151 very good.
