Has anyone got any tools or written any scripts that can copy all the image files from a CF card into a single directory?

It is such a pain going through each of the directories in the DCIM directory and copying the images out.

Have looked at the DOS (OK Windows XP Command Line Interface) commands copy, xcopy and robocopy and have thus far had no luck.

Does everyone else just put up with it?

I dont know of a script or macro for you, but there IS an easier way that digging into each subdirectory within the DICOM directory. Please forgive me if I sound like I am talking below you, but there may be others reading this who might have very little computer skills. I will be as rudamentary as I can.

1) Create a new folder on the desktop. Press f2 and rename the folder whatever you want.

2) Open a window to the drive that is your CF Card.

3) Click that open till you get to the DICM folder.

4) Right Click on the DICM folder and choose "SEARCH" (Or "FIND" - depending on which version of Windows you have).

5) When the Search (Find) Window opens go to "Search for Files Or Folders Named".

6) Type *.* (Shift-8, period, Shift-8 - or Star, Dot, Star) in the Search For Box.

7) Then click the "Search Now" button.

8) If you get no results, Click "Search Options" and check "Advanced" then check "Search Subfolders"

9) This will get you all of the files on the card without having to go into each and every subdirectory.

10) Then go up to the "File" drop down menu and click "Select All"

11) Holding down the Right Mouse Button, drag the files to your destination folder. When you release the button you will have the choice of "Move" or "Copy".

HONEST, it goes a lot faster than it takes to read (Or Write!). Not quite as good as a macro, but much better than having to go one subfolder at a time.

OK I am asking this again, Radtech1s technique but it would be really great if there was a script that can read the create date in a photo and put it in a directory with the date as a name?

DIM (http://www.alanlight.com/dim/Dim.htm) does exactly what you want. It's free. You don't even need to start it, you can configure it to start automagically on XP when you insert your CF card.

Bulk Rename Utility is the best tool IMO
