View Full Version : Friends don't let friends.........

I feel terrible. I was taking a nap yesterday when a friend of mine called for me. I didn't answer the phone, not realizing he was calling for some advice on purchasing a new dSLR.
Low and behold, he shows up this AM with a new Nikon D40. At that point, I realized what a terrible buddy I was, letting a little thing like sleep get in the way of preventing a friend from going to the dark side.
Is there a corner around here that I need to sit in?:)

You could still return it to the store for him ;)

Ooops :) Maybe the store will still take it back... LOL :) Tell him to exchange it for a Canon, then you can share lenses, etc. If not... You could see how the other side lives :) Just tell him to enjoy his camera and have fun!

There could be an upside to him owning a Nikon...if you have expensive lenses and are reluctant to lend them to others, having an incompatible body is a great excuse for not letting someone borrow them. :)

Quite honestly, I don't feel as bad about the Nikon thing as I do about the fact that it sounded like he got taken advantage of by a Big box retailer. While I haven't got the exact details on what he got, he said he got a "package deal" that was about twice the cost of body/kit lens on B&H. Sounds like it was a "sell you a bunch of cheap accessories for a bunch of money "kind of thing.

If you can get him to return it for full refund. I doubt it... but there's nothing wrong with the D40. Makes a great paper weight as markyb states! :p

BTW, I use a D40x at work... I HATE it so much. I use my own gear most of the time. That's how much I hate it.

I think once you're used to certain brand or method, it's harder for you to change. But you're not letting your friend down (unless he's ripped off for unnecessary purchases). I think both Canon and Nikon are good brands. I choose Canon because I had an older lens that I want to use when I start. Once i have more lenses, I'm more likely to stick with the same brand because of the hassle and money loss in the transfer.
I think a lot of big retailer allow 14days return on Camera. Just give it a try.
