Kind of resembles a sexton beetle, but I know it isn't. Deff not a ladybug.

Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if it were to be a ladybug of some kind. I searched and searched through bugguide.net, and was unable to find any absolute matches, although this (http://bugguide.net/node/view/8376/bgimage) ladybug has a similar body shape, albeit spots instead of stripes. You may want to submit your image to that website for a definitive ID. They are a wonderful site, and always appreciate new images.

I second that. It's Entomoscelis americana (http://bugguide.net/node/view/160610/bgpage), Red Turnip Beetle.
Couple of things I read say they are a pretty nasty pest species, but they sure are pretty.

Good find on both of you guys. I looked through the longhorn and leaf beetles, but I must have missed it. :)
