Jaguar Cubs

There's a little zoo close to home, but I only went there once before because of their very small enclosures. I like and apprecaite zoos, but there's something about putting 3 jaguars in a 50x50 enclosure that bothers me. It's also a very difficult place to shoot in because of this - along with the fact that they like glass and the sun is always causing too many reflections.

Alas, I have not had much luck or skill lately, so I broke down and visited in desperate need of a decent picture of an animal. Since this wasn't planned I brought only the 400 prime. Silly me.

So what do I find when I get there? Jaguar Cubs! They were born there July 18th and I never knew! I probably would have gone weekly just to see the cubs, especially after seeing all of Tommy's pictures of the cubs growing up.

So here's Tukari and Tai, at 5-1/2 months old. Don't ask me which is which.

Like you, I'm getting restless for some animal pictures myself so I've been thinking of visiting the Philadelphia Zoo. i would have gone today but they were closed for the New Year.

Were these shot through glass? I can't see that if thats the case.

The first was through glass, doing my best to cast a shadow to block the reflections. Luckily I cast a big shadow, but I couldn't get too close because the 400 doesn't focus very close. The second was through wire mesh, and I couldn't get very close to it so it was about 1/3 the way to the cub. If I had brought the 100-400 I would have had many more decent pics.
