Hi
I have just bought an IXUS 970 and I am really pleased with the results so far but I am having trouble when in low light situations. I want to take a photos in low light, with macro without the flash but using a long exposure time. Unfortunately the longest exposure on "Automatic" mode seems to be 1/8". and even if I go to manual the best seems to be 1".
Can someone tell me if I am trying to do the impossible or not.
Thanks
Mal

Ps I have read the manual from beginning to end but still no joy

Have you (p. 103 of the manual) set Long Shutter Mode? You should be able to get up to 15 sec. with that. Unfortunately, however, the IXUS/SD cameras are designed for people whose main goal is to take snapshots in ordinary outdoor conditions; if you want to control your camera, there are better choices available (including the upper end of the A-series PowerShot cameras).

Thanks for that. Too late to look for another camera at least for the time being. Is the IXUS not capable of choosing longer exposures than 1/8 in Auto mode. I would have thought if that results in a dark(very dark) picture it ought to be able to extend the exposure time up to its limit of 15 sec.
Is this not the case?
Thanks
