how many people did you convince to buy canon?
a friend of mine and his father both bought a 300D and an other friend also bought the 300D!
my father bought the s400 and my mom the s200
my brother bought my old s20 and a friends sister bought the A75
so that's 7 people i know off that bought it because i recommended it;)
hmm maybe i should ask canon for discount for promoting them

I convinced around 500 people to buy into Canon products, but only because I used to work at Best Buy.

At least a dozen or so but I do explain to them I've been a Canon fan for years & it's like the difference of buyin a Chevy or a Ford. Overall the main thing I try to do is not let them over spend on stuff they will never use or understand.

Based on feedback my gallery has had over last three years I'd say about 8491 ;)
Seriously, some of my friends and colleagues have bought a Canon G-something of 300D - but generally people tend to think that dealers are more trustworthy so often they get back home with a Sony or HP

Hmmmm, I bought a D30 and sold it to my sister after 2 years. I bought an A70 and gave it to my oldest son, because he didnt like shooting his film rebel anymore. I bought an A75 for my youngest son for Christmas and I almost have my boss talked into buying a Drebel. Another guy at work bought a Canon Pro 1 after I convinced him Canon was better than Sony. And I still have my 10D.

i know what you mean with those dealers Pekka
one friend of mine wanted to buy a S1 IS but the guy there almost convinced him in buying a trust powercam something! but he didn't buy it because i told him it was crap before he went there.
then i borrowed him a 300D and he was convinced that this was it.
i too stop people from buying stuff they never use.
if someone wants to make snapshots on vacation i will recommend them an P&S. and not a DSLR they will never understand or only use in auto mode.

Maybe 15-20, 5-6 for sure.
As most guys with black SLRs, especially with a "look at me" 1 series as I have now experienced, get stopped on the street by strangers who want to ask their silly camera/photography questions.
I usually suggest a cheap P&S or even a G series, most don't need an SLR. I don't ask for their number to follow up................
At school, most people are already using a 1D/1D2/1Ds Canon or the D1H/D2H/D1X Nikon, no point convincing them.
But I got two of my best friends, my brother, my aunt and my ex-girlfriend to get Canon.

The camera shops around here say what they use. Canon, the N word that must not be named, and Minolta. Now Walmart, Best Buy (most), Target say what is overstocked is the best.

There is a lot of parity out there when it comes to digital cameras. I don't believe there is one manufacturer that has the best system regardless of your needs.
I bought my 10D because it fit my needs and what I was looking for in a digital camera. I liked Minolta film cameras--they always felt intuitive to use (at least to me)--but at the time, they didn't have what I was looking for.
When friends ask me what camera to buy, I ask them how "in to photography" they are, what they plan to shoot with it and under what circumstances and go from there...

Iv convinced a few people on another forum into buying Canons (a car forum), one is going to get a 20D to replace his oylmpus P&S and Nikon (there I said it) film SLR.
Unforunatly several friends and my own father all bought Sony's because they listened to the sales guy instead of me. Iv used all thier cameras and while some can take good pictures they are all slow to focus and write to the memory card with limited creative control and are almost useless in low light thanks to slow lens. They are only useful as a fashion statement for people who don't really care about how they take photos.
That said I know someone who took some photos of a drifting event with a Sony, passed them onto the events organiser, who then used them for an article in a national publication.

I have personally helped my friends place orders for at least 10 Canon Cameras (S1, A60, A80s, G3s, G6s, 300Ds, etc.). Then I have influenced at least 15 people to go the Canon route. Then I can't count how many people I have may have convinced through this forum.
Yes, Canon does owe me a % of the profits they made off of me.

I think I get credit for three or four definates and a lot of maybes.
My technique is to give them a list of price versus quality
as in
Canon 1DsMkII - you can't afford it
Canon 1DMkII - You probably still can't afford it
Kodak SLR/C - Probably can't afford it but lowest cost FF camera
Canon 20D - Good camera if you can afford it about $1500 plus you end up spending another $1500 on lenses over time - best value overall though.
Canon 10D - replaced by 20D, but still good camera it will run you aout $1000 plus lenses if you can find one
N**** D70 - Not as good as Canon 10D, but slightly better then Drebel
Canon Drebel - good starter camera make sure you get it with the lens kit
[most people I know have gotten the Drebel as I expected]
Used Canon D60
Sony F828
Any P&S
I recommend Canon, N****, Kodak and Sony and unless they have improved avoid Olympus P&S because it takes to long to take a picture.
They note that I have not only told them more then one camera, but gave them an "informed" choice. Just a lot of the choices just happen to be Canon.
Most of the people who listen to store clerks in my area end up with HP cameras and printers.
Just my opinion,
