in photoshop it was color corrected, shaprened and cropped to 8x10 proportions

Very nice. The only thing that I would change would be to clone out or lighten/desaturate the three blobs of grass on the left. They pull too hard on the eyes.

Agree,

In fact I would have shot this in portrait and framed the girl and the flowers. Either that or found a more suitable background.

In addition, her left hand looks uncomfortable to me.
