Bed O'nails & Spiral Blossom

I'm not sure the name of this rather large flower but it's center looks like a colorful bed of nails.
#2 Is an interesting weed with blossoms in a spiral pattern along the stem.
Both taken in Central Japan.

First shot is great with that burst of colour.

Second flower shot is most unusual spiralling like that - the flowers are over exposed though.

Nice shots, although I think that if the spiral flours were shot from another angle, top or buttom, it could give a better artistic look, superb still though

I tried shooting at an angle but just couldn't get enough DOF to make it work. The stalk is about 6 inches high. I might try getting closer though. And yes Linda the scene was overexposed; I darkened it a bit in PP. But the blossoms were pretty pale to begin with.

Spiral flowers are nice but look bit washed out as compared to #1
