View Full Version : Program to add white (top & bottom or left & right) to image to make perfect square?

Hey I am building a shopping cart and am having some trouble. Apparently all of the pictures need to be perfect squares. So I need a program that will allow me to add white to the top and bottom or right and left of an image to make it a perfect square. I could do this by copy and pasting and "eyeing" it, but I have over 2,000 to get done. Any suggestions on programs that can do this in batch will be greatly appreciated! Thanks

I dont exactly know how to make this action. Step by step would be awsome though . . .

And because the pictures are right up to the edge, cropping cuts off too much of the picture.

1) Press D on the keyboard to make sure your background is white.
2) File-Automate-Fit Image. Set the size of the square you want.
3) Image-Canvas size. Again, enter the size of the square that you want.

It would be easy enough to save those steps in an action.

hmm well one more question. This seems to only be working on the landscape pictures. Any suggestions?

I just checked, and it works fine on portrait pics for me. What's it doing, exactly?

Well I just made the action again in portrait and then applied it to several picts and it just worked for the portrait ones. Where when I made action with a picture in landscape it only worked for landscape pictures. It appears to be making them the right size and everything but not adding white to the sides (portrait) or top and bottom (landscape) to make them perfect squares. Do you think there is a way to make an action that works for both?

It should work for both. Are you sure you're using Canvas Size, not Image Size? It sounds like a problem with the Canvas size step.

Yeah I'm getting the canvas step ok. But get this; I just made a new action where I had both a portriat and a landscape picture open and I flipped between pictures and did each step to each picture (bassicly just combined the actions) and then I did it in batch (took alot of pressing "ok") and it worked for both. Hmmm I wonder why its doing this

Sorry, I can't quite grasp what your problem is. But it sounds like you've found a solution.
