Errrr......

What to get??? I gave my dad my kit lens because he got the digital rebel body and I don't know what lens to pick up.... the 17-40L or the Tamron 17-35?? I have heard alot of people complain about the 17-40L on the 20D but I don't know if it was true or not... what to do, what to do....

Any suggestions???

BTW, losing the 5mm is no big deal... I already have the 28-75.....

The optics on the 17-40mm Canon are superior to any wide angle lens I found before I bought it. I have a 20D too, and never had any problem with the 17-40mm on it.

I hardly ever use it above 24mm..and really, the point with that lens is the 17mm part.

I have the Tamron 17-35 and I am very happy with it. I know someone who sweras by the Canon 17-40, so I think which ever one you buy it will be good.

I feel sorry for you, truely. I just finialized my decision and went with the 17-40.

The tamron never really crossed my mind but tokina does make an awesome 17mm prime that is far less.

I havnt had too many chances to use the 17-40 but from what i've seen it's just what you would expect from a lens of that price and of the red stripping. THe build quality is very very solid, the focus is snappy and quick and the color/contrast is heavenly. And of course, you can shoot wide open with no worries (to me this is the true mark of canon L glass)

Those were taken with the 1D and 17-40.

Becuase of your camera, maybe you ought to look into the 12-24 as well. 17mm on 1.3 is about the min. i'd want to have for a w/a lens. The 12-24 was also on my mind for quiet some time, just another peice to your puzzle.

The bottom line is that i'm sure you'll be very happy with whatever you get, so dont fret it too much, and good luck.

Thanks for the INPUT!!! I just picked up a near new 17-40 for $570 shipped... that should match the rest of my bag nicely. Now I need to look at a 24-70 maybe :) lol

I wonder what were they complaining about?
Picture sharpness or focal length?
