A friend and myself are setting up a home studio...we have just bought a softbox (a massive 8 sided one), bought on e-bay, now we need a backlight, we would like to know which is the best to buy....I'm guessing one with continuos light. (We are still amateur's - so not much knowledge)
If there is a light that we need that would serve us better than a backlight please let me know.
We have about $360 (AUD) to spend.
Hope that somebody out there can offer some advice!!

What light(s) are you using for home studio right now? Strobe or continuous?

OK, so you have a softbox. What is inside that softbox? Flash or continuous light? Do you have any other lights?? Need more info before giving advice... (also, $360 might not be enough cash for what you want to buy - the "best" always costs a little more :) ).

The softbox has continuous light, I realise $360 is not alot, it is all we have though, just to sort of launch ourselves.
We mainly want to do portrait photography. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanx again

Have a read about strobe vs continuous lighting in the faq (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=113639). In short professional + hot lights = hot sweaty subjects = bad idea.
